Home Warranty Tips – Find Out Why Getting Coverage Is Important

One question that every homeowner is faced with when buying a new home is whether or not they should get home warranty coverage. Well, there are plenty of things that factor into making that decision, but most people would agree that having coverage is well worth the cost.

For those of you new to warranties, basically it’s a type of “insurance” the provides coverage for major systems and appliances in your home. For example, lets just say you have a built-in dishwasher that is causing you problems. You can either pay to get it fixed, or depending on the condition of it, you may end up getting a new one. But having warranty coverage enables you to get it fixed or replaced at a fraction of the cost.

Also, most providers have a network of companies they are affiliated with who provides consumers with the replacement parts or repairs. So it eliminates the hassle of trying to find a reputable repair company. It may not seem like a big deal, but every day people spend countless of hours trying to find a company that has good reviews and have a decent price. And having warranty coverage provides you with top notch contractors and at a low price.

As for the cost of coverage, well that usually falls within the range of about $30 to $100 a month depending on the type of coverage you need. Now, for some new home buyers, adding another bill to the list of bills they already have may seem unnecessary, but when you think about how much it cost to repair certain things around your home, you quickly realize that having warranty coverage is the best option.

This is an important aspect to keep in mind, because the last thing you would want to do is have to pay a huge bill to get something repaired and have to dip into your savings to do so.

And lastly, while having coverage is important, as I stated earlier, some people may not need it. Those of you with mostly modern appliances on your home, most of the appliances may be covered under the manufacturer warranty already. But if you have an older home with outdated appliances, you definitely want to at least contact some warranty companies to see how much it would cost you for coverage.

Home Automation More Than Cool

The role of your security system has certainly expanded in recent years at the same speed as cell phones. The detection of intruders is still the primary function but the integration of home automation is approaching techie on the scale of star trek. The alarm systems of today can help you manage your home while you are away. Your Security System is capable of so much more than intruder protection. With the addition of wireless products there has been a wide variety of devices made available to truly make your home into a smart home. Some may consider these to be unnecessary additions but most people are finding it hard to believe that they were able to function before having these new home automation products.

With Home Automation there are unlimited possibilities of doing things with the click of a button. Your home automation system can start out small with just a few key items and easily be expanded to control many of your home appliances. All of the following are available with home automation:

  • Wireless Door Locks
  • Wireless Thermostats
  • Wireless Door Bells
  • Wireless Lighting Control

Installation of smart products give the home and its occupants various benefits – the same benefits that technology and personal computing have brought to us over the past 30 years – convenience and savings of time, money and energy.

“Smart Home” is the term commonly used to define a residence that has appliances, lighting, heating, air conditioning, TVs, computers, entertainment audio & video systems, security, and camera systems that are capable of communicating with one another and can be controlled remotely by a time schedule, from any room in the home, as well as remotely from any location in the world by phone or internet.

Home Automation can help with you resolutions

Take Control of Your Life

– New smart phone apps are a portable command center that allows you to control door locks, lights, thermostats and video cameras.

– Real Time notifications which include security reminders, temperature alerts, video clips and everything else you might want to be notified of.

More Accessible to your Loved Ones

– With a smart home you can make access easy for the right people. Unique user codes can be assigned to provide different levels of access.

– With each person having a unique code you can be notified when each person gets home and who is using the system.

– Temporary access can be given to contractors or pet sitters. Any access code can be time restricted to only allow access during certain hours.

Focus on The Important Things

– It’s easy to get too much information so with the new smart home systems you can filter out what you don’t want to receive alerts for. For example, you can choose to be alerted when:

  • Your front door opens when you’re at work
  • you leave home without arming your security system
  • someone changes your thermostat temperature
  • someone opens a desk drawer in your home office
  • your outdoor camera records a motion-triggered video clip

5 Simple Energy Conservation Ideas For Your Home

While most potential home buyers, consider their monthly mortgage payment (including principal, interest, and escrow/ taxes), many, fail to adequately consider other monthly expenses, associated with home ownership. Perhaps the most significant one, is the cost of energy – related activities, including electric, and heart. The purpose of this article is not to examine the many alternative heating alternatives, including solar, geo – thermal, etc, but rather, to review some simple steps, one can somewhat easily take, to make their home more energy – efficient, and friendly. Let’s look at 5 simple, basic, energy conservation ideas/ steps.

1. Windows and doors: What is the Energy Efficiency Ratio of your entry doors? What material are they made of? How are they hung? How much air is seeping out, through the spaces created, because of their alignment? Simply, assuring your door has a bottom sweep, and the spaces around the top, and sides, is reduced/ eliminated, will prevent heat escaping in the winter, and air conditioning, escaping during the summer. What type of blinds, or curtains are you using, and are you using them, to let sun in, when it is cold out, while reducing the entry of the heat of the sun, when it is hot? When was the last time you checked your windows, in terms of air – tightness, energy rating, and tinting (if your local climate indicates doing so)?

2. Insulation: Every form of insulation comes with some R rating. This number indicates the amount of insulation, but are you certain, all exterior walls and ceilings are properly insulated? Doing so, might potentially save a considerable amount of unnecessary energy costs.

3. Energy efficient appliances: Certain home appliances, especially refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners, have become far more energy – efficient, in recent years. How old are yours? Look at the rating, and it will indicate how much energy a particular appliance might be using. When I recently replaced my refrigerator, the new one was far more efficient (therefore, cost less to run), than my 15 – year old model. Similarly, today’s oil and gas burners and boilers are far more efficient, than they have ever been!

4. Water and toilet: Are there any dripping faucets or toilets that continue to run – on? Eliminate the drips, change faucet heads (especially in the shower), and check the efficiency of your toilets.

5. Lights/ fixtures: Begin by making the effort to turn lights off, when you leave the room! What type of light bulb are you using? Many bulbs today are four, or more times, more efficient (use less energy/ wattage), than older ones. Do a lights and fixtures – review on a regular basis!

These 5 ideas may seem basic and obvious, but you’d be amazed how few people consider these. Unless you like wasting energy, and spending more than you need to, using these simple, conservation methods, will save money, and reduce energy waste.

How Can I Power Small Appliances in My Home Using Solar Energy?

When you consider all of the items in your home that use electricity, the list, as well as the cost, can be daunting. Many people are beginning to use solar energy for at least some of the power required in their

households.

Solar energy can help power some of your small appliances, particularly if those appliances are in a certain area of your home. For example, you may want to provide solar power for many of the electronic devices in a home office to protect them in the event of a power failure. To do this, you can buy or build your own solar power generator. An Internet search will provide a wide range of generator suppliers. However, you can build your own unit, often for less than $400.

Here is one way to build your own generator. You can make or purchase solar cells to make a solar panel. New cells are available from many retailers, or you may consider buying used or slightly imperfect cells at significant discounts on eBay. Next step: Purchase a deep-cycle rechargeable battery, one that is at least 12 volts. These batteries are often used for boats or recreational vehicles. Be sure to buy a container for the battery to cover any terminals that might be accessible. You will need to obtain a 12-volt DC-power meter.

Then, buy a DC input, which will allow you to run DC-powered appliances. Many appliances are A.C. powered, so you will have to purchase an inverter, which will convert the D.C. power to A.C. Before buying the inverter, estimate the amount of power you will need. Wattage is usually found on most electrically powered items, usually on the bottom or back of the item. You can also find typical wattage for many items on the Internet. Combine the wattage of the items you plan to power with your generator, and then buy an inverter with at least that wattage.

Attach the meter and the DC input to the top of your battery, using a drill. With insulated wire, attach your meter to the battery wing nut terminals. Be sure that you connect the negative pole before the positive one. In the same manner as you connected the meter, connect the DC input and finally the solar panel to your battery.

When you place your solar panel in the sun, note that it can take up to eight hours to power a never-used or dead battery. Allow about three hours to charge a weak battery.

Home Made Power Plant – A Real Review

Why I Decided to Buy Home Made Power Plant

I had financial problems because of a failed stock investment, and I was searching for a way to save on everything, starting with electrical energy. In fact, I have many home appliances including the dishwasher, the washing machine and a personal computer that cost me nearly $350 every month.

So I went online, surfing the web for any information on saving on electricity bills and I found this manual ( Home Made Power Plant ) explaining how to save up to 80% on electricity bills utilizing solar panels.

I decided to gave a look at it and I bought the manual.

What is it about

Home Made Power Plant is an eBook written to help home owners to significantly decrease their electricity cost. It’s a 115 pages ebook, and when I ordered it, I received also 3 bonus:

Bonus #1- “Biodiesel- An alternative solution for your car and home”

Bonus #2 – “Best Tricks & Tips To Save Energy”

Bonus #3 – “Free Updates For The Next 10 Years”

Frank Patrick, the creator of Home Made Power Plant, said that those bonus were available just the day of my order, but they are still now available, so no need to worry about that: I think they will be available for many months.

I took one and a half day to build the solar panel following the Home Made Solar Plant’s plan. It wasn’t such easy to build, but it wasn’t difficult. Well, think that I’m an alternative energy researcher, a scientist, not an engineer! However, after less than 2 days, I was able to make my solar panel work.

My personal opinion

Now, at the time of writing, my solar panel has been working for more than one month and it saved me about 135 dollars in electricity this month. To be really honest, I did not save 80% this month, as the Home Made Power Plant’s website says, but something more like 55%.

I think that the product is worth its cost, because with the little investment of less than 50 dollars, I was able to save more than 130 $ just the first month. 130 dollars a month aren’t big bucks, but you must remember that you will save more or less these figures not just the first month after the installation, but for all the following years to come.

Top Signs You Need Home Appliance Repairs

Noticing when you need repairs for your appliances can help you save money. Fixing a broken appliance at the start can often prevent the need for a costly replacement appliance.

Paying attention to how well your appliances are performing is a good idea if you want to make sure that you don’t end up footing bills that are higher than they’d have to be. Keeping a look out for the signs that you need repairs can help you to ensure that you get the most out of your appliances and keep your wallet protected.

Obvious Signs You Need Repairs

There are quite a few obvious signs that you may need appliance repairs in your home. For one thing, some of your appliances may stop working altogether. For example, if your dishwasher won’t turn on, then you know it’s time to opt for appliance repairs. While you may think that putting off dishwasher repairs and washing your dishes by hand will save you a bit of money, the truth is that you may end up paying more on your water bills by doing things this way, since dishwashers are more efficient than hand washing. If it’s obvious that your appliance is broken, then you need to secure dishwasher repairs right away. Having your dishwasher up and running again will be more energy efficient and cut down on water usage, and you won’t have to spend a large amount on a replacement unit.

Sometimes, the signs that you need repairs for your home appliances are not so obvious. Many appliances will still turn on but will not function in the appropriate way, and this could cause you serious inconvenience as well as increase your household bills. As such, you should look for signs that your appliances are not working to the best of their ability. For example, if it’s taking twice as long to cook your favorite recipes, then you may need oven repair. If you let these problems go unattended for even a few months, you could cost yourself hundreds of dollars when you end up having to buy a brand-new appliance. Instead, you should find an oven repair expert and deal with them right away.

Increased Energy Bills

One of the major signs that you need appliance repair can actually be found in your energy bills. While you may not have noticed that it takes your dryer a lot longer to get your clothes dry, you will definitely notice a rise in the costs of your electricity bills if cycles are taking longer. When you first start to notice that your costs are rising, it’s a good idea to begin looking around your home to see if your appliances are performing in top condition. If your AC is working too hard, then this might be causing your bills to increase, and you may need to consider air conditioner repair. If you don’t take the initiative to hire appliance repair professionals right away to secure expert air conditioner repair, then you could stand to lose a lot of money in the long run.

Get Help Right Away

The best way to make sure that your finances are protected is to get repairs as soon as you can. While you may think that you can save some money by putting off refrigerator repair, the truth is that waiting usually ends up costing you more. Appliance problems can go from bad to worse in no time at all, so it’s best if you don’t take any chances. You should either find a way to perform refrigerator repair on your own at home, or you should contact a professional repair service to help you get your home appliances running in good condition once more.

Home Appliance Maintenance – Some Pointers To Keep Your Brother SE400 In Good Order

In today’s throwaway society, it is so easy to neglect our electronic gadgets. It’s also tempting to put our home appliances into that same category – especially when it comes to maintenance. A sewing or embroidery machine such as the Brother SE400 is not actually an electronic device. Because it has moving parts it is not sealed like a digital camera or smart phone. Such a machine is classed as “electro-mechanical” and as such requires regular maintenance – unlike a mobile phone or modern camera.

Following are some pointers regarding safety precautions and regular maintenance of your sewing or embroidery machine. The same helpful hints are likely to apply to many of your home appliances in one form or other.

Electrical Safety Precautions

Even in this day and age when advanced electrical safety switches and circuit breakers are built into new homes and renovated residences, there is still an electrical risk with any home appliance. Whenever operating a computerized device in the home it makes common sense to use a power surge protector. You should also unplug an appliance such as a sewing machine from the wall if you are leaving it for more than a few hours. The more power an appliance draws during use, the more important it is to unplug it from the wall when it is lying idle.

It would be a real pity to have a valuable appliance such as a sewing machine burn out because it was left connected to your home’s power source and something untoward happened.

  • You may have unknown wiring problems in your home, or even just at the power point in the wall – particularly in older homes.
  • Some appliances may just be “lemons” with an electrical problem which if triggered could cause damage either to the appliance itself or possibly cause a short circuit in other parts of your home.
  • Electrical storms are always a risk.

Sunlight and Storage

Sewing machine casings today tend to be made of plastic that become discolored if left in direct sunlight. The mechanical parts inside can also be affected if the machine is left in very humid locations; always store your machine in a dry area away from direct sunlight.

Oiling

These days many machines are made of materials that do not require oil, or their moving parts are already infused with lubricant. However, make sure you read your machine’s manual to ensure that this is the case. Otherwise you should get into the habit of oiling your machine after every big project and whenever it has been left idle for a length of time.

Heat

I once used a bright halogen desk lamp over my sewing machine so I could see my work more clearly. It wasn’t until I had finished my project and went to put the machine away that I discovered a part of the casing had become distorted because the heat from the lamp melted the plastic. It may sound obvious, but you really need to watch that you don’t operate your machine too close to a space heater, your iron or any other hot appliance.

Dust and Fabric Fluff

It may seem unnecessary to spell out precautions about dust when it makes common sense to so many. However home appliances do actually gather dust and dirt can hurt! Certain mechanical parts can malfunction simply because they have become clogged with dust. Even if you leave your machine out overnight, it is a good policy to cover it. Most machines come with a soft cover for this purpose.

Sewing and embroidery machines will inevitably collect fluff from the fabrics you are sewing. The friction of the needle continuously piercing your fabric and the movement of the material along the feed dogs creates a surprising amount of fluff. It is therefore important to make regular use of the cleaning brushes provided to clear any fabric fluff from the feeder dogs and the bobbin case. It is also a wise precaution to check and clean your foot control every so often. You would be surprised by the amount of dust and dirt that collects around anything on the floor.

Unusual Noises

Don’t ignore unusual sounds. If you notice the motor making a different noise, it probably means something. Firstly check the LCD display to see if there is any error code showing. Check that the needle is secure and that the bobbin mechanism is properly engaged. Make sure that your spool of thread is sitting correctly and that the thread is not caught or jammed at any threading point. Check to make sure that all the air openings are clear. If the noise doesn’t go away, you really need to take your machine to an authorized repairer for a check up. Fortunately Brother USA provide a 25 year limited warranty, so something unusual which is not due to rough handling could quite possibly be covered.

Remember, not only machines such as the Brother SE400 Computerized Embroidery and Sewing Machine need to be treated with respect. The tips provided here also apply to many home appliances and garden tools, even if they are inexpensive to purchase relative to days gone by.
